mEET KRISTIN SMITH

KRISTIN SMITH, hubby JOSIAH SMITH, with son KINGSTON and daughter PHOENIX A bit about Kristin Smith: A native of Washington, Kristin grew up wanting to be one of 3 things - a supermodel, a professional basketball star or a newscaster. At Cal State Northridge, Kristin majored in  communications, and played basketball for the Matadors from 2002-2004. Aggravation of a pre-existing knee injury curtailed her professional plans. Instead she turned her focus towards TV and landed an intership with Fox news. As luck would have it, she had a game-changing opportunity to interview Queen Latifah, Alfre Woodard and Djimon Hounsou, when her boss had to leave for a family emergency and she was left holding the pad and pen! After graduating from CSUN in 2005, Kristin rose quickly from sports anchor to news anchor and developed a broad audience in Phoenix.  In 2013, she married Josiah Smith and had Kingston the following year. Home and Family offered her a position as a mommy expert, and she grabbed the opportunity to be closer to her family. She once told an interviewer: “I really love the freedom and working intermittently, but the goal is to have my own lifestyle show,” ... “I think that’s next. I pray for it a lot. Faith is a big part of my life. I’m trusting God, and we’ll see.” And I was with her when she got "the call" from Fox TV here in Los Angeles. Kristin Smith and her co-host Richard Bacon give you 30 of the day's top stories in 30 fast-paced minutes. Top 30 airs weekdays across the country, go to Top-30.com to find out when it airs in your city! Kristin can be found at #@top30tv, #@tahariasl, and #@pistolandstamen.

KIDDOCJJ:  Kristin, what memorable thing did you last have to EAT?

KRISTIN:  Well, I've been vegan for nearly 2 months now, so I've been scouring the city of Los Angeles to find a cure for my meat and dairy cravings. I recently had the most delicious "Hawaiian fried rice" at a spot in Burbank called "Something Vegan."  MIND BLOWN! It was spectacular in every way - a perfect mix of fried rice, pineapple, curry powder, cashews, dried cranberries and a soy "chicken" substitute. Not to mention their take on a lemon mojito!

KIDDOCJJ: What have you LEARNed that sticks with and influences you daily?

KRISTIN:  I recently got some advice that changed my life. That is to give 100% of myself to 10 things, rather that 10% of myself to 100 things. It's like a switch went off and all of a sudden I started taking things off my plate that didn't need to be there. As a working mom, wife, ministry leader, mentor, volunteer , and I mean, as women, we wear so many hats! We have to be choosey about what to pour ourselves into.

KIDDOCJJ:  Where or what would you like to explore and why?

KRISTIN:  Lately it's been on my heart to do something amazing for children in need. I don't mean to sound all "Mother Teresa," but there are so many kids who go without, and it shouldn't be that way. So I'd love to explore a remote village somewhere, and do something "small" in first world terms, but huge in theirs. Whatever that would look like, I don't know exactly. But it's something I plan on exploring. (KIDDOCJJ: see, this is why I love this woman!)

KIDDOCJJ:  Who or what inspires you …….

KRISTIN:  My relationship with God inspires me. I've found contentment, joy and a deep peace in getting to know God through the Bible. I work in a dark industry, where on the outside it looks sparkly, but so many people on the inside are deeply hurting. God has changed my life in real, tangible ways and because I'm infinitely grateful. I love sharing the fact that God is what drives me. He's my mojo!

KIDDOCJJ:  You certainly have received your calling on so many levels - from God, from Fox, and your true calling as a fantastic mother and wife. I know you will find your village and fulfill your next calling to children in need. Thank you so much for this interview, Kristin! Knowing you is knowing the meaning of INSPIRE.
